Welcome to the new Autodesk Cloud Engineering blog! Follow us on our journey as we share our experiences, perspectives, trials and tribulations as Autodesk begins the transformation of our products and services into a true cloud business.
Our blog will focus on cloud technology and open source leveraging Autodesk expertise in areas such as visualization, analysis, simulation, data, etc... The broad spectrum of what will be available will be through rich contributions from across our various cloud engineering teams.
Let’s get started! We are psyched to introduce our new open source project called Ochopod. Over the last year or so, we began looking for better ways to simplify and standardize our deployments. Docker and container technologies in general feed this purpose well. However, as we embarked on this effort we quickly realized that creating containers is pretty easy but making containers into a real, easily managed clustered service is not. Enter Ochopod...
In brief, Ochopod provides automated container orchestration over Apache Mesos.
Running inside your containers, Ochopod is the secret sauce that will automatically orchestrate your containers into a service. How do we know it works? We've used this in our own production environment for high volume eventing services. These services leverage technology such as Zookeeper, Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Redis. All of these are seamlessly orchestrated, along with our web tier, using Ochopod.
Did we get you at “Ochopod”? Well, stay tuned, we’ll have another post soon enough which will give you the gory details of Ochopod and how it works.
